After checking my e-mail this morning, I was excited to see that they are backing community Organizations that are getting people fit! YAY! Do you have an Organization that could benefit? Have an idea brewing but not sure how to get it funded? Maybe now is the time! For more information, please see: http://www.nikebackyourblock.com/

Knit One, Purl One.. Curl One, Squat One

images This year I started something new, Knitting! I am sure that it is something that you think of your grandma or even your mother doing as you grew up, but knitting is also popular with the young. Not only that, but some of your favorite stars are knitting these days also. Knitting was brought to me by my wonderful mother after years of trying to convince me of the calming effects of it. Well, this year I figured why not give it a try again and actually finish something! After three weeks, I can say that I am hooked!

Here is what I have learned so far: Yarn stores are fun and dangerous at the same time. There is so many great textures and colors that you want to buy and use them all! There is knitting groups called “Stitch and Bitch” where you hang with your fellow knitters and chat about life and even get a little help on the project you may be stuck on. There is a great online community called Ravelry.com to meet up with other knitters (and Crocheters too), share your projects, chat in the forum and share patterns. I also learned that there is a Vogue knitting (but, the word on the street is the patterns aren’t always easy to understand) but I am still excited!

Knitting has even recently popped up in TV commercials. Yo-plait has a new commercial out with a woman surrounded by her Knitting just to keep herself from eating poor foods. I have to admit that I find the commercial entertaining, since I also find that I have to watch the time to make sure that I stop to get my eating in! You can’t do both at the same time.

As you know, knitting involves a lot of sitting and repeated movements with your hands, wrists and a little shoulders. It can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, tight shoulders, hip flexors and even lower back from all of the sitting. How about some fitness just for Knitters? E-Book coming soon!
